Chris Langseth was inspired at an early age by his mother’s enthusiasm for art. Through her encouragement, he spent hours sketching while growing up. He began his formal art training at Central Missouri State University, graduated in 1973, then continued his education at the University of North Dakota where he obtained his master’s degree in 1976. Chris and his wife Sue, currently reside in Shawnee, Kansas.
What inspires Chris’ work? He reflects: “There are moments in life, as we scurry around with our busy schedules, when something we observe causes us to pause and quietly reflect. It may be something spectacular like a sunset, or a storm, or it may be as subtle as weathered wood or a puddle of water. In my paintings I have tried to create a sense of that quiet arresting moment.”

Chris also enjoys teaching art at Piper High School in Kansas City, Kansas where he has taught for 25 years. He finds great satisfaction in helping students develop skills and discover that they can create something worthwhile and meaningful with their own hands. |
